Juneteenth is coming - let's celebrate!

Every year, June 19 marks Juneteenth, a day of remembrance of the African American culture, specifically Emancipation Day when the last enslaved African Americans learned they were free. On June 19, 1865, Union Soldiers traveled to Galveston, Texas and brought the news that slavery officially ended two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863. Juneteenth is celebrated with Recognizance and Reconciliation of our Country’s history with the institution of chattel slavery of African American people, which recognizes the resilience, creativity, and contribution of African Americans to shaping American Culture. As we reflect on this day and the contributions made, Compass Group continues to advocate for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice recognizing the value and importance it adds to the fabric of the organization. Compass Group at Microsoft understands the uniqueness of all associates and ensuring that each one of us feels equally involved and supported in all areas of our respective workplaces. On June 20, 2022, and every day throughout the year, we celebrate the African American associates who call Compass Group at Microsoft their professional home. Your legacy, your impact, your contributions, and your professional expertise are greatly appreciated throughout the year, and we appreciate hearing from you about how we can continue to foster a more inclusive work atmosphere so that all of us feels welcome, included, and the sense of belonging that helps us to thrive. We are recommending on June 20th to minimize meetings, where possible, to join in a day of exploration, learning and engagement. If needed, please select an alternate day for this important moment to learn and reflect. Listed below is a starting place for resources for your continuing learning journey: • Volunteer with the Northwest African American Museum (NAAM) on Saturday, June 18, 2022! History of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ensures the Civil and Human Rights and dignities of individuals with disabilities are protected.

July 26th marks the day in 1990 that the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed. Now, nearly 32 years later, people with disabilities still fight for freedom from workplace and structural oppression based upon their disability status.

We believe firmly that including people with disabilities in the day-to-day activities and responsibilities within our workplace is essential to help overcome the stigma often associated with disabilities and their associated inequitable outcomes. Some of these include lower wages, lower hiring rates, marginalized working assignments, and lack of accessibility for working assignments that people with disabilities are qualified and equipped to perform with reasonable accommodations when necessary. Join us in recognizing the myriad contributions of our associates with disabilities.

Our A.B.L.E. ERG is a resource and outlet for people with disabilities and allies to join together for the common cause of advocating for inclusion, equity, and accessibility for all associates, regardless of their disabilities statuses. We reflect a variety of functional units and cultural backgrounds and are truly committed to advancing inclusion for people with disabilities at Compass Group National Accounts.
